September 3rd & 4th, 2008.
We had two choices, do a 5-hour drive to the Yosemite National Park, or stopover and visit a small town, and stay the night along the way. We chose to stay at Hotel Charlotte in Groveland.
Groveland is a small town along highway 120, one of the few highways to use to drive to Yosemite from the Bay Area. The hotel isn’t hard to find, since the town is built along the road, on either sides, and well-marked by the GPS.
A nicely styled accomodation, we got two adjoining rooms, with a common bathroom/toilet. With Satellite TV and wireless Internet Access, it manages to keep itself updated to the modern traveler’s expectations, while retaining it’s small town image. The common area is nice, with a PC and internet access, a small area for board games and reading next to the reception office. The hotel restaurant is famous around town, unfortunately, it was closed that day of the week, and we could not make it any other day.
We all loved the place, and the boys enjoyed playing with ‘Goose’, one of the candidates running for Honorary Mayor of the town. The special thing about ‘Goose’ is, he’s not a person, nor a goose, but a dog. He seems to have a pretty good chance, and we wish him all the best!
What a lovely write up on your Groveland, Hotel Charlotte visit. I had a great time with your kids and hope my pictures turn out as well as yours did. Thank you for the visit, we hope you find reason to return!
